SUPPORTING RESEARCH AND CARE AT BC CANCER
August (Gus) Pokotylo passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 25 at the Glengarry Hospital at 81 years old. He was born in Dauphin Manitoba to Ukrainian born parents. Early in his career, Gus was a Naval Aviator on HMC BONAVENTURE, Canada's sole aircraft Carrier in Nova Scotia at that time. Returning to his studies, he worked on his PHD in Economics at Dalhousie University and later moved to Ottawa with his wife, Eleanor and their two children. Gus enjoyed a successful career in senior management positions, mostly at the Department of Transportation with Canada’s Federal Government. In support of his strong faith, he was a long time member of the Cathedral and he loved to be a weekly Steward for many years. He was also the Chairman for Bishop Gagnon’s Building Commission and was a long-time member on the Bishop’s Diocesan Finance Committee, as well as a member of the Diocesan Strategic Planning Committee.
Gus had the deep admiration and respect of his whole extended family, as well as his peers, colleagues and lifelong friends from the Navy, government, the cathedral, associations, and anyone he came acquainted with.Gus lived every moment to the fullest with humour, happiness, and contentment,.
