Donation to BC Cancer Foundation in Loving Memory of Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan

With heavy hearts, the family of Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan announces the peaceful passing of their devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with her family by her side on Sunday, October 30, 2016.

Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan was born in Cham Kong (湛江), Canton, on March 4, 1931, the eldest daughter and second oldest of 6 children to Mr. Sic How Wong and Mrs. Kwun San Chan. Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan immigrated to Vancouver, B.C. in 1973 with her husband, Mr. Shu Ki Kwan and their five young children. They raised five compassionate and devoted children, Joe, Margaret, Stella, Herman and Cecilia. As a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she has been a caring, intelligent and cheerful role model to each and everyone including her 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan always put family first. She loved her family and supported them unconditionally. With her family, she was a storyteller, intuitive and wise. She spent her life loving to teach, sing, travel, see photos and share memories. Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan was resourceful and diligent to educate herself and take the effort to maintain her health care, diet and well-being for many decades of her long life. This translated to her love for cooking and healthy foods, which all her grandchildren loved about her, as she would always keep her family well-fed and happy. Having family close by, loving her and each other unconditionally, is what mattered most to Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan. Family was a priority and Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan instilled great values as a pillar to all those within her family.

Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013, at age 82, and received treatment from Vancouver General Hospital and British Columbia Cancer Agency until 2016. She has always been a fighter, even after surgery and chemotherapy, with the strength and good spirits to keep her good health.

Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan enjoyed her life, until the cancer returned and metastasized 3 months ago. She fought valiantly but ultimately was overcome by cancer. The family wishes to continue her fight by contributing to this worthy cause. The B.C. Cancer Agency not only helped her fight but also provided a great deal of comfort and kindness to her. Please join us in finding a cure.

Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan will be remembered as a creative, wise, thoughtful, warm and kind-hearted soul with a gentle smile on her face. She was the Mother of all Mothers and Grandma of all Grandmas. Mrs. Fung Yee Kwan is, and will always be, greatly loved and sorely missed. May she rest in peace.
