Supporting Research and Care at the BC Cancer Agency
In January of 2018, Melody Kornelson was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, despite having never smoked. Her life was never the same. Following the initial diagnosis, she underwent surgery to remove the cancerous part of her lung in February 2018 and was declared cancer-free. Her joy was short lived as the cancer returned over the following year and a half. In December of 2020, she was re-diagnosed with terminal lung cancer which had spread to her bones. Over the next 2 years, Melody would receive diagnostic imaging, testing, and multiple expensive treatments from BC Cancer Agency, at no cost to the family.
Throughout her 4 year battle, she courageously and selflessly lived with poise and dignity. The care from the BC Cancer Agency enabled her to live her last few years on her own terms, without the financial burden of expensive treatments. The loving care from the Agency's doctors, nurses, and technicians gave Melody comfort and peace during her many rounds of radiation, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies. Because of the treatments and care she received, she was able to visit family and friends, enjoy a vacation to Mexico with family, and do many of the things she loved at her homestead in Salmon Arm.
Melody fought valiantly against cancer for four years, and when the fight was taken out of her hands she went to be with her Lord and Saviour gracefully, surrounded by her family.
To those who wish to donate financially in memory of Melody, her husband Greg and her family ask that all donations go to the BC Cancer Agency. This organization made Melody's last years the best they could be, and the family hopes to pass this blessing onto others.
The BC Cancer Foundation accepts US dollar donations and Gifts of Securities. Please note there will be a delay in your gift appearing on this page.
