In Loving Memory of David Measday

David was the beloved husband of Janet, his wife of forty-nine years, and the loving father of his twin daughters, Karen and Vivien. He was educated at Kings College School, Wimbledon and won a scholarship to Wadham College, Oxford where he received a first class honours degree in Physics, followed by a D. Phil in nuclear physics. He then spent three years as a post-doctoral fellow at the Cyclotron Laboratory, Harvard University.
In 1965 David married Janet Norbury in Hampshire, England. David and Janet took up residence in Geneva, Switzerland where David was initially a PDF, then a Staff Member at the Synchrocyclotron at CERN. In 1969, their twin girls Karen and Vivien were born.
In 1970, David, Janet and their daughters moved to Vancouver, B.C. where David joined the Physics Department at the University of British Columbia (UBC). At TRIUMF, David studied various properties of pions and muons and continued with work on muon capture until retirement. In 1990, David became Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science at UBC and in 1998 was Dean pro-tem. Including sabbatical leaves, David and Janet lived in seven countries and enjoyed travelling in many others, thus living a varied and fruitful life together.
In retirement, David pursued his interest in family history and taught practical applications of nuclear and medium energy physics. He also acted as treasurer for four year for the UBC Professors Emeriti.
David will be greatly missed by Janet, Karen, Vivien, his son-in-law Mark, his adored grandchildren Clare and Jason, his older brother Clifford and wife Doreen, their children Christine and John and all the extended family in Jersey, C.I., in the U.K. by John and Hazel, Richard, Kate, James and Benjamin, family friends and his colleagues at UBC.
A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at Cecil Green House, 2651 Cecil Green Park Rd., Vancouver, on June 23 at 2pm.
