Why We Are Fundraising

Robin McArthur gave his all - to his family, his friends and his community - always putting others before himself. Those who knew Robin would agree, he is the kind of person the world needs more of.

From his famous Barn in Hope B.C., Robin set about fixing just about anything that came his way - from vintage rides to heavy rescue trucks. But it is important to know he was more than a genius mechanic; he was a wonderful father of two, a devoted husband, a friend to many who would visit him at his Barn day in and day out, and he was a lifetime member of Hope Search and Rescue. In 39 years of dedicated volunteering Robin helped save many lives.

At the shop and at home, Robin always had time for young people. He thrived when teaching others. For anyone who walked through his door there was always a warm welcome and laugh, and that infectious smile.

With the tireless support of his loving family, Robin had been battling pancreatic cancer, and fought the disease with a nobility, and a strength that is an inspiration.

It was his wish that he could continue to help his community, by raising funds for pancreatic care and research.

What We Are Fundraising For

Pancreatic Cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer death in Canada. Unfortunately the majority of cases aren't caught in the early stages when tumours are most treatable. As a result, only about 6 percent of patients live at least five years after diagnosis.

During his own struggle, Robin discovered that pancreatic cancer was not receiving the fundraising attention it deserved, so he sought about changing this, brainstorming ways to show support. It was decided that half of funds raised here would go toward pancreatic research in B.C. He was also so impressed with the care he received at the BC Cancer Agency's Abbotsford Centre, that he wanted the remaining half of funds to be directed toward the care of future patients there.
