BC Cancer Foundation Raises $52.2 Million for Life-saving Cancer Research in British Columbia

Partners in Discovery | 52.2 Million
The BC Cancer Foundation announced $52.2 million raised in 2015 to support life-saving cancer research and enhancements to patient care. The generosity of 100,000 British Columbians has ensured that the highest priority initiatives taking place at the BC Cancer Agency will be well-supported.

“This year, our donors rallied with overwhelming support to ensure that more and more British Columbians diagnosed with cancer are able to say three important words: ‘I’m Still Here’,” said Greg D’Avingon, Chair, BC Cancer Foundation Board of Directors. “Our donors allow the best and brightest scientific and clinical minds in the world to reach new heights in cancer knowledge.”

The Foundation remains the largest funder of cancer research in B.C., supporting breakthrough discoveries that result in groundbreaking advancements for British Columbians facing cancer.

Generous Community Sends Six-Year-Old on Trip of a Lifetime and Raises $13k for Cancer Research

Partners in Discovery | Cristian at Daytona 500
Cristian is as big a race car fan as they come, and he recently got the thrill of a lifetime when he received an all-expenses paid trip to NASCAR’s Daytona 500.

Cristian’s mom, Darlene, has terminal cancer and wanted to take her son to a car racing event that he would remember forever.

Her friend Ben, through many phone calls and emails, was connected to a friend-of-a-friend who sponsors a NASCAR team and immediately offered to cover the expenses for the trip to NASCAR’s biggest race of the year, including full VIP treatment.

Darlene, a 37-year-old mother of four, unfortunately took ill and spent the weekend in hospital. Although she couldn’t make it to the race, she was glad Cristian was able to partake in the experience.

“Through the generosity of complete strangers, Cristian and I had the opportunity to solidify a memory that will last long after I am no longer here,” said Darlene. “It means so much to me that we were able to do something he will never forget.”

The man who made Cristian’s trip possible wanted to remain anonymous, so Ben organized a fundraiser for the BC Cancer Foundation in his honour.

Combined with online donations, over $13,000 has been raised in support of cancer research and enhancements to cancer care at the BC Cancer Agency.
