Bob Conconi was diagnosed with throat cancer two years ago, and was treated at the BC Cancer Agency. The news took an emotional toll on Bob and his wife, Diane. Bob's father passed away from the same type of cancer 30 years earlier and Bob recalled the gruelling treatments his dad underwent. "I can remember him saying, 'If I had known what this treatment was all about, I wouldn't have gone through it".
Thanks to research, in the 30 years between Bob's diagnosis and his father's, drastic improvements have been made in cancer treatments. After undergoing immunotherapy and radiation therapy, Bob is now cancer-free. Thankful for the care he received and impressed by the innovative research taking place at the BC Cancer Agency, Bob decided to channel his renewed feeling of hope into the cause.
Together, Bob and Diane committed to double gifts to the BC Cancer Foundation until October 31st, up to a combined total of $3 million! The response to the Conconi family's challenge was incredible, with over 10,000 gifts doubled, raising a total of $3,089,645!
