Jennifer MacPherson has 30 years of experience as a physiotherapist and 10 years as a bike fitter. She enjoys working with the cycling community in her practice at West 4th Physiotherapy. She cycles whenever she can, including with Glotman Simpson for road rides and cyclocross silliness.
Join John Smythe, a member of the Canadian Men’s Field Hockey team, as he shares his story of chasing his dream to play the sport professionally and competitively after being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at the age of 18. A near death experience and falling out of the National program for 4 years has not held John back from taking advantage of opportunities presented to him and competing on the world stage for 8 years. His perseverance now has him on the road to Tokyo 2021.
John will share how having a chronic illness affects an athlete’s performance in competitive sport, why building resilience and a support system has played a crucial role in his successes and lessons he has learned competing on an international stage.
Sarah Roth is the President & CEO of the BC Cancer Foundation. Sarah has an extensive 24 year career in fundraising and has elevated the BC Cancer Foundation’s revenue to record heights. She is an avid cyclist who annually participates in the Cypress Challenge and is a true champion of BC Cancer’s efforts to change the outcome for all families facing cancer.
Dr. Daniel Renouf is the Executive Medical Director at BC Cancer and Co-Director of Pancreas Centre BC. His research is focused on pancreatic cancer and aims to improve the global understanding of the elusive disease and bring new hope to patients and their families. Dr. Renouf is a cycling enthusiast and annually participates in the Cypress Challenge.
