Lose the Booze is a month-long alcohol-free challenge during February 2019 to raise funds for the BC Cancer Foundation and groundbreaking cancer research.

The Challenge

This February, take the Lose the Booze challenge and go 28 straight days without alcohol. What you’ll lose in booze you’ll gain in funds for life-saving cancer research at BC Cancer. We know that one in two people in our province will face cancer, so put down your ale, grab a mocktail and help make a difference today!

Where does my money go?

All funds raised from Lose the Booze directly benefit the BC Cancer Foundation, the fundraising arm of BC Cancer, to support novel treatment options and enhancements to care for families facing cancer across our province. We all know someone whose life has been touched by this disease about one in two Canadians will face a diagnosis in their lifetime. By giving alcohol the boot this February and supporting the BC Cancer Foundation, you are making a tangible difference in the lives of these patients and their families.

What do I have to do?

Start by registering for Lose the Booze. Then set up your fundraising page and start asking friends and families to support you in this challenge. We’ll be sending you tips throughout February to help see you all the way to March 1st!

Why is there a registration fee?

The $28 registration fee signifies your commitment of $1 a day to Lose the Booze for an entire month. It also offsets the costs of setting up this challenge, so that the money you raise can directly support life-saving cancer research.

Is there a fundraising minimum?

We suggest setting your fundraising goal at $200. In our experience, this is a very achievable target for a challenge that you are undertaking for a whole month. But you can decide to make this higher or lower depending on how much you want to raise!

How much do people need to donate to receive a tax receipt?

Donations over $10 will receive an official tax receipt within 10 business days.

Can I collect cash or cheque donations?

Yes. Donations forms are available here and in your Participant Centre. Please ensure cheques include your name and/or team name, and are made payable to the BC Cancer Foundation. Cheques can be mailed or dropped off to:

Lose the Booze
BC Cancer Foundation
150-686 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1G1

Please do not put cash in the mail. Please drop cash off at our offices during business hours, Monday Friday between 8:30 A.M. and 4:30 P.M.

What if I need to cheat?

We understand you might have a previously scheduled event (i.e. wedding / birthday) that might make it hard to stick to the challenge. So we have created a Free Pass option. For a donation of $30, you can have the night off guilt-free!
