*I'd like to preface my post this year by acknowledging that these are challenging financial times for many people, and also that presently there are SO many amazing organizations that are doing valuable work to help combat tribulations that different populations are facing. If you are not in a position financially to be able to donate to this cause I fully understand; I'd love if you could share this fundraising page so that it is able to reach more people.*
My family has been participating in the Glotman Simpson Cypress Challenge since 2017, after my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The goal of this 13km bike ride up Cypress Mountain is to raise awareness and funds in support of pancreatic cancer research and care at BC Cancer. Although my mom lost her battle with pancreatic cancer in February 2019, her quality of life for those two years was GREATLY improved by clinical immunotherapy trials that she was a part of through BC Cancer. Some of my best memories with her from these times are of getting out and enjoying the outdoors that she loved so much: hiking the chief, swimming in Osoyoos, and skiing on a family trip to Sun Peaks in December of 2018. I also will always remember her standing at the last bend right before the finish line of the Cypress Challenge, cheering loudly for everyone on team Pioneer Susan. All of these memories were made possible by the care she recieved from BC Cancer that extended her life. Though the current covid-19 pandemic has put many aspects of people's lives on hold, there are still so many people going in for chemotherapy weekly, just as my mom did. Through your donations it is our hope that we can be a part of changing the negative prognosis that is currently associated with pancreatic cancer.
This year, the Cypress challenge will be done virtually, and our team will be tackling Cypress mountain at different points throughout August. If you wish to join our team for fundraising purposes, we would love to have you!
