When I was VP of Campus Life during my time at BCIT, I was involved with an event called Cut for the Cure where people raised money for the BC Cancer Foundation by cutting off their hair. It was at this time that I knew when it came time to cut off my dreads that I would have to do it for Cancer Research.
That was also around the time that my Uncle Mike had been battling a persistent brain tumour. My Uncle Mike had bought a new wheelchair that summer preparing to come to my graduation but sadly, a couple of weeks before my graduation, Uncle Mike passed on.
I’ve had my dreadlocks for over 5 years now (no extensions or cutting). I was planning to cut off my dreads in the summer of 2007, but things weren’t
going to go as planned. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and had
to have surgery. We did our best in staying positive and at her post-operative appointment, we found out that the cancer had not spread but she may need to undergo preventative treatment. We are very relieved and grateful for this outcome.
After these two incidents of cancer that has affected my family, I am raising money to donate towards head and neck cancer research and breast cancer research. I will be cutting off my dreads in honour of my Uncle and my Mom and for everyone who has been affected by cancer.
If you would like to donate funds to support this event, I would greatly appreciate it. You will be participating in the fight against cancer and the BC Cancer Foundation will issue you a tax receipt.
Please also support this event by sending this web link to anyone you know.
Positive thoughts and prayers are always welcome! Thank you so much for your support!

You are inspirational girl! I have long chestnut hair and I just can't bear the thought of cutting it..but you are doing something so wonderful...It inspires me to think about donating my own hair to be made into wigs for chemo patients.
I'd donate some money but I am unable at this time.
Angelic hugs to you.
