Welcome to my fundraising page for the 10th Annual Glotman•Simpson Cypress Challenge in memory of Gary Heppell. On Sunday, August 13, 2017 I will join hundreds of fellow cyclists, as we ride up Cypress Mountain in support of the BC Cancer Foundation.
Although this event is done in memory of Gary Heppell, I will ride again in memory of my mother, Barbara (nee Aprile) Harrison, her mother Pauline (nee Hozy) Aprile, and my uncle Wilf Harrison. Not only do I ride in memory of those family members, I ride for the family and friends that miss our loved ones every day. My aunt Donna was most accurate in her description about my mother's illness, that is was a shockingly brief illness. It was two weeks from the time we learned my mother was ill until the time she passed. This ride makes me feel I am doing all I can to eradicate this disease from other peoples experience.
Since 2008, over $2.05 million has been raised through the Cypress Challenge.
This is more than just a ride up a mountain; it is a journey towards a world free from cancer. Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers, with 600 people in B.C. expected to be diagnosed this year.
One hundred per cent of the donations that we raise through the Cypress Challenge benefit leading-edge pancreatic cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency and Pancreas Centre BC.
Your support will really make a difference.
Thank you for your support and any donations you are able to make! With much love, Gail Harrison
