Welcome to my fundraising page for the 10th Annual Glotman•Simpson Cypress Challenge in memory of Gary Heppell. On Sunday, August 13, 2017 I will join hundreds of fellow cyclists, as we ride up Cypress Mountain in support of the BC Cancer Foundation.
Since 2008, over $2.05 million has been raised through the Cypress Challenge.
This is more than just a ride up a mountain; it is a journey towards a world free from cancer. Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all cancers, with 600 people in B.C. expected to be diagnosed this year.
One hundred per cent of the donations that we raise through the Cypress Challenge benefit leading-edge pancreatic cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency and Pancreas Centre BC.
My wife's father Ken was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the late 1990's and succumbed to this wicked desease in 2001. It was a shock to all in the family to see him go at the young age of 62. Numerous people in my life have been afflicted by other forms of cancer among others my mom, cousin, and very recently my own father, being diagnosed just after his 90th birthday we celebrated this summer. Too many to mention, and too many - period! When my rowing friend Norm told me last week that his wife has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer recently, and that he and his family will join this ride, it did not take long to convince me to pick up this challenge.
Your support will really make a difference.
