Riding for a Cure!
With the 2010 Olympics coming up, Vancouverites are becoming more and more enthusiastic about recreation.
Cycling in British Columbia is steadily becoming the predominate sport for getting into shape. In Vancouver, 9 out of 10 people own a bike and around 80% of them will do some sort of cycling event in their life time. Team GlotmanSimpson was created by a group of friendly riders who would like to promote a positive image for cycling. As a cycling team and club, we are cycling's ambassadors and must continue to promote a safe and fun environment for others who ride and those who interact with riders like motorists.
The year 2009 was a successful year for the Glotman.Simpson Cycling Team. Our team has won 3 BC Provincial Championchips and our club has grown to over 100 members. Regardless of our successful season we would like to step up for 2010.
In 2010 we will continue to fully support the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund. In 2009 the Glotman SImpson Cycling Club has fundraised $42000 towards Pancreatic Cancer Research.
"Pancreatic Cancer is the second most common gastrointestinal malignancy and the fourth leading cause of cancer death in North America. It affects both men and women. According to statistics from the National Cancer Institute of Canada, approximately 3,400 Canadians are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer yearly. In British Columbia, approximately 480 new cases are diagnosed each year. The mortality rate is virtually identical to the incidence rate. Only 1-4% of pancreatic cancer patients survive at five years after diagnosis." (http://www.bcpcrnet.ca)
The Glotman.Simpson Cycling Club would like to fully support the search for a cure against Pancreatic Cancer.
