Hi everyone! This month (Jan 4 - Feb 4) I am going to swear off the demon liquor in the mad hope this might amuse you enough to be enticed into donating some money to the BC Cancer Foundation.
Cancer is a disease that touches all of us; 50% of British Columbians will face cancer in their lifetime. As you probably know, my family is no exception. Some of our famliy members and friends have survived cancer or are fighting it; others have not. I know this is the case for a lot of you too. It's a cruel disease.
After our brother Max was diagnosed with adrenal cortical carcinoma, my brother Connor started doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer, another fundraiser for the BC Cancer Foundation. I even rode with him one year, and while it was a painful physical experience, it was a powerful emotional one. Our brother Max passed away, but the team founded in his memory, To The Max, has since raised over a million dollars (!!!) for the fight to cure cancer.
I am so immensely proud of Connor and his compatriots, but I am not *nearly* enough of a bike riding fan to participate in the Ride again. I can, however, rise to the challenge of not drinking for a month.
I'd really appreciate any support you can send my way, financial or otherwise (tips on the best mocktail recipes would be great!). Since my registration fee covers the administration costs for my participation, all the money you donate will go directly to the BC Cancer Foundation, and you'll get a nice little tax receipt too. Win-win, n'est pas?
So, here we go. Water not wine! Pop not pints! Tea not tequila!
