TARGET Pediatric AML

Ast-Kindree Family

We lost our son, Bo, days after his third birthday.  He was diagnosed with pediatric acute myeloid leukemia (pAML) when he was 11 months old. He was sick for all three of his birthdays. Bo’s light and unbelievable resilience throughout his two years of intense treatments kept our hope alive.

Treatment and prognosis might have been different for Bo if he had access to BC Cancer’s pAML Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS). The advanced genetic testing done through WGS has the potential to refine, alter and improve the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and management of pAML. With WGS, we may have found other targeted drug options for Bo that might have kept him more comfortable, and with us longer.

Now, together with you, we want to help ensure that all children diagnosed with pAML have the funding to be enrolled into this WGS research.

In honour of Bo, we set up this fund to give children with pAML the best chance at surviving.

We have to do what we can to prevent other children and families from experiencing this immense pain and loss.

Thank you for your support, it means a lot to us.
