Dear Friends,
As many of you know I will be departing for a cycling trip in Africa. I am hoping to use this bike ride to raise awareness and money to support the BC Cancer Foundation. The BC Cancer Foundation hosts the Ride to Conquer Cancer, and it was there where I first learned of the tremendous work the foundation does. Most of us have had too many good friends and family taken away too soon because of this very ugly disease, and I would like to help bring an end to it. I know the road to success in this is not a short one, and it may not even come in our lifetime, however each journey begins with one step and this is mine.
I am setting an initial target of $20,000, which I hope to obliterate with your help.
I know some people want to donate per km, and others as a total at the beginning. One friend also suggested a flat starting amount with a monthly donation based on kilometers achieved and a bonus for achieving EFI status (see TDA website, link below, for definition).
In order to motivate you, below are the details of the ride I am embarking on.
Total (official) km = 11,220 - including my anticipated wayward sense of direction most likely 11,400. I will take a picture of my bike computer at the start and provide regular updates on progress.
Number of countries = 10 - EGYPT, SUDAN, ETHIOPIA, KENYA, TANZANIA, MALAWI, ZAMBIA, BOTSWANA, NAMIBIA, SOUTH AFRICA.
Start date Jan. 17th in Cairo.
Anticipated completion date May 12 in Cape Town.

Thank you to everyone who can make a donation. Even if you can't, please follow my ride just to check it out and participate.
Love to all,
Vikas
