This May, I'm moving for those who can't. For those we have lost.
I lost my Mom Paula to Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) on September 4, 2017. She was just 57 years old and she was my best friend. From diagnosis to her last day was just over five months. In this insanely short period of time, the disease ravaged her body. It was incredibly painful for her as she lost the ability to walk, eat, talk and eventually breathe. It was heartbreaking for my entire family and my Mom's beloved friends. It's something I hope no one else ever has to face.
There's not a day that goes by I don't think of my beautiful Mom - my idol. I miss her energy, zest for life and love of people immensely, and am saddened by all the milestones we won't be able to celebrate together but I know she's with me daily in spirit and in my heart. Some day, I hope to be even half the mother she was to me to my own children.
My Mom was into various sports and fitness routines throughout her life from tennis, skiing, aerobics (hello 90s!), spin classes, and later in life, yoga and meditation. She actually took me to my first spin class and first yoga retreat which I'll always cherish. I'm forever grateful for the values she instilled in me around health, wellness and happiness coming from within - where fitness and movement are crucial.
