This May I’ll be participating in Workout to Conquer Cancer presented by RYU Apparel, where I’ll be joining hundreds of others across the province as we get moving every single day of the month in support of cancer research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer.
One in two British Columbians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. I've committed to break a sweat and fundraise to improve the outcome for people facing this disease across the province. With your support, we will make a significant contribution to the world-class research conducted by the clinicians and scientists at BC Cancer. Their work is providing exciting new evidence that is changing the way cancer is prevented, detected and treated.
My intention to participate this year is to celebrate the spirit of triumph I have borne witness to. I watched a close friend struggle with cancer and make it through the dark tunnel, as a stronger, happier and more resilient being and another friend at work who lost her dad to cancer, who was broken and devastated when I first met her due to her loss and to see her transformation in such a short time and her family’s spirit of moving beyond their suffering and ushering hope and strength through their foundation. Both have inspired me to reach out and use what I love doing as a Hoistic Nutritionist and Personal Trainer to serve this cause.
Furthermore, it allows me the opportunity to create space for a like minded community to not only come together and serve a worthy cause but also to take on their personal heath and fitness goals and work against self doubt and limitations of the mind and be able to make a health commitment, while having the support of a team alongside. Letting the body creatively explore movement, helping the mind find strength and balance and celebrating the spirits sense of purpose and accomplishment are key outcomes I am hoping the team enjoys at the end of this 31-day journey!
