Please take a minute to read this.
Carter, the son of one of our friends, is 12 years old and has knee cancer. I've never heard of that either, and it breaks my heart that something like this can happen to a happy, healthy, smart, charismatic, athletic kid. Life isn't fair (as they say). He has an amazing attitude and a great support group of family and friends who are going through this with him. On Valentine's Day, he had surgery to replace his left femur with a titanium one - amazing stuff that not long ago was unheard of. The BC Cancer Society is doing a fundraising challenge (your can read all about that below) that I'm taking part in. We all know people who have been affected by this horrendous disease, but, as in Carter's case, the funds raised have made such a huge difference in how many people now survive and live normal lives. I've got many people in mind while doing this challenge, including some family friends going through a tough time. The team I've joined is appropriately named Carter's Crew. I don't like asking for money, and I know many of you donate throughout the year, but if every one of my 300 or so Facebook friends even donated $5 (skip your Starbucks one day), together we'd raise $1500.
Thanks, from all the Carters and others who benefit from just a small donation.
Below is the challenge - feel free to join that as well. You could also join Carter's Crew and collect donations.
In May 2017, I'll be participating in a month-long fitness fundraising challenge that will have me lunging, squatting and downward dogging with hundreds of others across the province who have committed to make a serious impact in the effort to conquer cancer.
I'm going to Workout every day in May to improve the lives of all who are impacted by cancer. With your support, we will make a significant contribution to the world-class research conducted by the clinicians and scientists of the BC Cancer Agency. Their work provides exciting new evidence that is changing the way cancer is prevented, detected and treated.
So, as I lace up my shoes, fill up my water bottle and get ready to lunge, laugh and stretch my way through a full month of workouts, please support my efforts by making a donation today.
Thank you for helping me to make my workouts pack the most punch!
