This May I’ll be participating in Workout to Conquer Cancer, where I’ll be joining hundreds of others across the province as we get moving every single day of the month in support of cancer research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer.
One in two British Columbians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. One of these people is my step-brother, James, who has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer of the colon, lungs and liver. He lives in Vancouver with his wife Jean and his two young daughters. At at time where it is hard to know how to help, what to say and how to accept this, I've committed to working hard everyday this month and to thinking of him and my family while I'm doing it.
With your support, we will make a significant contribution to the world-class research conducted by the clinicians and scientists at BC Cancer. Their work is providing exciting new evidence that is changing the way cancer is prevented, detected and treated.

Yesterday was the final day of my Workout to Conquer Cancer fitness challenge. As it comes to an end, I am feeling so much gratitude towards all the support and generosity you have given me. I have enjoyed every minute of this challenge (I do love to exercise), always keeping my step-brother, James and his family, in mind.
Whenever I was tired I thought "I am not as tired as he might be at this moment" and when I felt short of time in my day, I carved it out and made my workout a priority by getting up early or squeezing it in between other commitments.
Our bodies are amazing machines - I am blessed to have a capable, strong, healthy body to do a challenge like this. Please use your body, move your body (your mind will also thank you) and keep it as healthy as you can. Listen to the messages that your body sends you. You are stronger than you think - and that is what I proved to myself this month, both physically and mentally.
Thank you to hubby Jodie who took over extra kid-related duties so that I could do my workouts each day. To my mum and dad who babysat and to those friends who were able to join me and keep me motivated when I needed company during those workouts.
Finally, pease keep James and his beautiful family in your thoughts - it will be a long road for them but hope and positivity can take us a long way. The money I have raised will help in the research towards healing my step-brother and for that, I am forever thankful from the bottom of my heart (and my laundry basket- so much laundry this month!!).

May 31st Workout
10.7km around beautiful Burnaby Lake while Sam was at BCN soccer academy near by. A great way to end of this challenge, surrounded by nature with time to reflect. Thank you all for the support, it's been a fantastic month :)

Today was SWIMMING! Lap after lap while this little guy was in his lessons, not an easy feat for me, I don't love swimming. And I think I drank too much pool water :( But it was a great change, thinking of James xo

May 17th NO Workout!
I have three rest day donations banked - today is the day I am going to use one.
I was on the fence about it, but even though I slept 9 hours, my body is saying REST and I'm going to listen!!
Thanks to Rebecca for this Rest Day Pass :) I'll be all energy for tomorrow's run with my buddy Eva on the Poco Dyke.

Just about half way there! I was feeling tired and sore today but pushed through for an upper body and core workout this afternoon after my last client at Poirier Sports & Leisure Complex. Today was the first day I considered using one of my rest day passes that were donated to me...but I thought of James and kept going. Photo rotation problems again!!!

Mixed it up today - 1/2hr of chasing after Sam while he participated in Ruben's Ruckus obstacle course race, then 1/2hr on the spin bike at home in our cool basement, away from the hot, hot heat!!

Workout after work and I don't even have to go anywhere ;) TRX rows, pushups, tricep extensions, jump squats and planks. Lateral shoulder raises and reverse flys standing on the bosu...done!

Thursday night soccer academy for Sam means a 10k jaunt around Burnaby Lake Loop for me. I felt tired to start, but maintained a good pace and finished up in 53mins, still time to watch him on the field :)

Intervals up to the top of the Coquitlam Crunch before the fam jam woke up. The sunshine was brilliant and thankfully no bear sightings...although I did scare myself with my own shadow...

Up bright and early to squeeze a 6am outdoor bootcamp in at Pomo Rec. Great way to start the day in the fresh air on the field listening to the birds chirp away! Made that much better by the company of my buddy Lana! :)

Bootcamp Buddies came together and we did the 5km Hike for Hospice in Port Moody. Such a great event, beautiful (hot!) weather and a fantastic way to start off the morning. I'll be doing an upper body weights session later this afternoon at home too!

8.4km (twice around the Perimeter trail) in the peaceful Mundy Park. For the life of me I can't rotate the image above...such a gem of a trail so close to home, shaded from the heat of this amazing spring day. $10 away from doubling my fundraising goal!! So thankful for all the contributions. xo

A warm spring evening at Burnaby Lake. Ran 7.6km while Sam at at the Fortis Sport & Health training centre across the street for soccer academy. Swallowed a few flies en route! Sam told me it was good for protein ;)

6pm pre-dinner 6.2km run around the beautiful Shoreline trail in Port Moody. What a stunner of an evening, I'll figure out if I can post photos. Kept thinking how incredible it is that by day TWO my fundraising goal has been surpassed! So thankful xx
