As you may know, I recently started working for the BC Cancer Foundation, and my coworkers are truly a passionate, talented and inspiring bunch! It's hardly surprising - they are working to help raise funds for groundbreaking cancer research and programs to give patients the best care they can get.
This May I’ll be participating in Workout to Conquer Cancer presented by RYU Apparel, where I’ll be joining hundreds of others across the province as we get moving every single day of the month.
As an avid hiker I know that some of you think that I'm super fit, but not so! In fact, it's really hard for me to get motivated to exercise, that's why I'm so glad to be doing this, for someone else. Sometimes that's easier than doing something good for ourselves! So, as I lace up my runners, fill up my water bottle and get ready to sweat my way through May, please consider showing your support. If $5 is all you can do right now - THANK YOU! Monday - I bought myself a $25 pass to take the day off! Money goes to the BCCF - a great cause!
Tuesday - I walked to and from work (40; 4kms mins each way)
Wednesday - 5km run
Thursday - gym workout - man, my body knew about it afterwards!
Friday - I walked home from work (my body was so sore!)
Saturday - first swim in 18 months due to a shoulder injury. Managed 1.1km (40 mins), in a 50m pool which I'm not used to - makes a huge (hard) difference!
Sunday - walked a lot here and there, plus a 2-hour hike in a beautiful urban rainforest here in Vancouver - Pacific Spirit Park - over 26,000 steps!

Trying to Save Money too!
Not belonging to a gym at the moment means it is challenging for me to find "sweat workouts" to do, but nevertheless I am walking and biking MUCH more than if I weren't being challenged to deserve your donor sponsorship $, so thank you very much everyone! Last week:
Monday - 5km run (30 mins) - 15,383 steps in total!
Tuesday - walked home from work instead of taking transit (almost 4km)
Wednesday - biked to and from work (6.6km each way)
Thursday - 35-minute lunchtime walk and walked home in the evening (another 40 minutes) - 16,325 steps in total!
Friday - afternoon off so walked the seawall for 1.5 hours (7.5km) - 18,279 steps in total!
Saturday - did a 2.5-hour, 36km bike ride along the beach and through Pacific Spirit Park - it was glorious!
Sunday - biked to and from church (14.5kms round trip)

Time has been my biggest Challenge!
It has been a hectic week, but I've managed to fit the following in:
Monday - 5km run
Tuesday - Biked to work and back (25 minutes each way, including a killer 4-block hill!)
Wednesday - lunchtime walk of 45 minutes
Thursday - walked to and from work (40 minutes each way)
Friday - walked to work (40 minutes)
Saturday - 33km bike ride to Spanish Banks & back
Sunday - 15,000 steps
Although it may not seem like much, I had to force myself to do a lot of this due to having a had a hectic week and being tired. But I did it! So thank you for your sponsorship and encouragement!

Almost a week!
I can't believe it's been almost a week since I started exercising every day to raise funds for cancer research & programs! To be honest, the most challenging things has been to find the time...the weather has been fantastic though, so wanting to get out has not been hard! I have done a couple of pre-work runs, cycled to work, cycled around the seawall and also walked to work. Those walks to work are great for giving my body a bit of a rest from the harder workouts. Thanks all for your support and encouragement!
