This year will be the first of many Workout to Conquer Cancer(s) that I'll participate without the direct love, energy and support of Tamara O'brien. It'll still be there... Just different this year. Last year I participated with her and this year I will feel her beside me for every workout (as I do every day of my regular life).
Although I was her coach, she was, in all honesty, equally my coach. Tamara taught me a type of self-love that I did not ever know I'd be able to find. A trust in myself that I'd longed for and was so unsure how to find. She led the way.
When she joined our competitive Trampoline club in 2015 I thought I was helping her reach a goal of attending one more World Championships (which she did attend). However, I had no idea the impact this young, fiery, passionate, kind, dedicated, amazing young woman would have on myself and our club. I look at life differently because of my time with Tamara. I believe in myself because of Tamara. And I believe in the world because of Tamara. This will be a unique year of strange physical-distancing workouts but I'll hear her from the stands and feel her always in my heart, with a strong (slightly pitchy) "YOU GOT THIS!!!! YEEEEEAAAAAH!!!"
