This May I’ll be participating in Workout to Conquer Cancer, where I’ll be joining hundreds of others as we get moving every single day of the month in support of cancer research and enhancements to care at BC Cancer.
I decided to join team Thick Thighs Save Lives in support of the BC Cancer Foundation because it is important to support those who are currently battling cancer, and raise funds to support those who will battle it in the future. My team organizer, Tamara O'Brien, is 22 years old and living with stage 4 metastatic melanoma. Tamara won the silver medal at the World Games in 2017 for double mini trampoline. As a result of her diagnosis and treatment, Tamara has had to take a break from competing for the time being. As a fellow member of the trampoline community, I wanted to show support and join the fundraising team.
If you want to learn more about Tamara's journey, you can find her blog here: https://tamarakobrien.wordpress.com/
One in two British Columbians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. I've committed to break a sweat and fundraise to improve the outcome for people facing this disease across the province. With your support, we will make a significant contribution to the world-class research conducted by the clinicians and scientists at BC Cancer. Their work is providing exciting new evidence that is changing the way cancer is prevented, detected and treated.
