This May I’m joining thousands of Canadians across the country to participate in Workout to Conquer Cancer, and I am doing so in honour of my dear friend and forever role model, Tamara O'Brien, who passed away last October to metastatic melanoma cancer.
In solidarity with BC Cancer and Hot Tam Summer, I plan to participate in one hour of physical activity each day over the next 31 days to pay respect to those undergoing cancer treatment, those in remission, those in paliative care, and those we have lost.
This challenge is more than just exercise; it's acknowledging our privilege and collective responsibility, as well as celebrating Tamara's life and continuing her legacy. So, as I get ready to push my way through May, please show your support by making a donation today or by pushing yourself in any way that you feel reflects Tamara's spirit, whether that's participating in physical activity, applying SPF 60, going vegan, quitting smoking, or doing something outside of your comfort zone, it's about taking control over something within our capacity.
Interestingly, in addition to Workout to Conquer Cancer, May is also Melanoma Cancer Awareness Month, an international campaign that calls for increased public awareness surrounding skin checks, early detection, treatment options, etc. For my more information, please visit Melenoma Network of Canada: https://www.melanomanetwork.ca
