Gibbs - John Peter McAlpine, born April 12, 1954 in Vancouver, B.C., passed away peacefully in his home in Vancouver, B.C. on June 5, 2012 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents John F. (Jack) and Elizabeth Gibbs. Peter is survived by his wife Linda, son Alexander (Maddy Armstrong), daughter Jennifer, sister Alison Hamilton (Alasdair), niece Arran, nephews Andrew and Callum, father-in-law James Jamieson, and many friends.
Peter attended Queen Mary Elementary School and Lord Byng High School, and received his B. Comm. from UBC in 1978. Peter was president and general manager of Refrigerative Supply for over 30 years. He was highly respected and enjoyed the many friendships he made in the HVAC industry throughout Canada and the U.S.A. Refrigerative Supply is a family owned business. The family is very grateful for the support and loyalty of our 160 employees.
Peter was a member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club and the Arbutus Club for more than 45 years. He enjoyed boating, tennis, skiing, biking, spending time with his family and friends, and playing practical jokes. He had a great sense of humor, always stayed positive and taught his children to never give up.
The family thanks Dr. Christian Kollmannsberger, Dr. John Hay, the dedicated team at the B.C. Cancer Agency, Dr. Simon Yu, the caring nurses at Burnaby Hospital Cancer Centre, Peter’s family physician Dr. Peter House, the nurses at Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre and the pharmacists and staff at Kerrisdale Pharmacy. All your kindnesses were appreciated.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on Saturday, June 23rd at 2:30pm in Ballroom D at the Vancouver Convention Centre, West building, 1055 Canada Place. Condolences for the family may be sent to peterinfo@rsl.ca
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Peter’s name to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
Peter was a kind, generous, and humble man. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and a treasured friend. He was very much loved and will be sorely missed.
