I don’t think there is anyone who does not feel enriched by having known Rob. Despite 11 years of fighting the fight, Rob possessed an amazingly strong and brave spirit right to the end and faced each day with good cheer and a wry sense of humour. His all-round wackiness meant it was always a joyride spending time with him, and with that glint in his eye you just never knew what he was going to say or do next! Rob lived life a lesson to us all to do likewise.
Rob and Debbie always felt lucky to have the unwavering support of friends and family. They thank each and every one of you for always being there for them in so many ways. Also thanks to Dr. Tom Nevill, Oncologist at the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit for his unfailing devotion to Rob’s care. Rob appreciated your kindness, amazing medical expertise and your dry wit. Appreciation to Dr. W. Hofmeyr his G.P. for his kind and respectful nature.
During the past 11 years, Rob was helped by the cutting-edge treatment and tender care he received at Vancouver General Hospital through the L/BMT unit. Rob’s treatment would not have been possible without the groundbreaking research completed by dedicated scientists at the BC Cancer Agency’s renowned Centre for Lymphoid Cancer.
Rob believed strongly in supporting research for lymphoid cancers and this is why he and Debbie have asked for your donation to be directed to the ANGELYC Project. Dr Joe Connors who actually treated Rob at the beginning of his battle with cancer is the project’s Research Director. Dr Connors and his team are focusing on analyzing the DNA of all types of lymphoid cancers. Their goal is to identify genetic mutations so future treatments can be specifically targeted not only towards lymphoid cancers, but other forms of cancer too.
A fund in memory of Rob has been set up to direct donations in his name to the ANGELYC Project. You can donate directly from this webpage. Thank you for remembering Rob in this way, it is what he wanted.
