Second Annual Pink Paddles for Cancer Research Fundraising and SUP Team Relay
Under his Paddle for the Planet banner, Bob Purdy committed to paddle 1,000 consecutive days to 'Change the Way we Live on the Planet'. He exceeded his goal and paddled 2,100 days until he had to stop to address health issues that included cancer. A passionate voice for the planet, he was often seen wearing a pink tutu while paddling; a symbolic gesture for those without a voice.
Bob had a vision to give back to the BC Cancer Foundation that supported him through his fight with cancer, specifically to support continued cancer research in the area of nutrition. His Pink Paddles for Cancer Research fundraising and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) team relay event was his way to do that as well as to foster conservation of the environment and encourage community connection and inclusiveness. Sadly, Bob did not get to see his vision realized but the SUP community and the BC Cancer Foundation came together to carry through with his vision and to pay tribute to Bob in July 2018. After a successful inaugural event that took place at MEC Paddlefest Victoria, we are thrilled to be returning to the water for the Second Annual Pink Paddles for Cancer Research event on July 6, 2019 at MEC Paddlefest Victoria at Willows Beach.
You can support Bob's vision by adding a fundraising component to your stand up paddling experience. Sign up here as a fundraising team captain or join an existing team and start your fundraising. You can personalize your fundraising page and send your link to those who would love to support your efforts! The first team to raise $1,000 will receive 4 x $100 gift cards courtesy of Coastline Surf and Sport.
Not paddling? You can sign up as an individual and create a fundraising page or you can make a gift or donate to your favourite team or participant.
