BC Cancer Foundation and BC Cancer Agency staff and volunteers mourn the loss of Mr. Alex Campbell Sr., O.B.C, whose passion and dedication to advance cancer research, and help cancer patients and their families, was extraordinary.

Mr. Campbell led the BC Cancer Foundation’s fundraising efforts on Vancouver Island for over a decade—his tremendous commitment and quiet determination motivated countless individuals and businesses to make philanthropic gifts and give back to their community. On June 7th 2011 Mr. Campbell announced the successful completion of BC Cancer Foundation’s $10 Million Inspire the World campaign, of which he was Chair.

“We are heartbroken,” says Laura Walsh of BC Cancer Foundation. “Mr. Campbell was a true leader, a mentor and a friend. He believed in life-saving cancer research and compassionate care at the BC Cancer Agency, and he believed that together we could make a real difference. Our deep sympathies go out to the Campbell family“.

Alex and his wife Jo made the lead gift to the Inspire the World campaign in September 2009, at which time the naming of the future Alex & Jo Campbell Patient and Family Support Centre was announced. The innovative centre will be housed at the BC Cancer Agency’s Vancouver Island Centre—it will be a place where patients, survivors, family members and caregivers can go for information, support and research trials.
