A PET/CT scan is vital in helping doctors diagnose cancer and create treatment plans for patients. Currently, there are only two publicly funded PET/CT scanners in B.C., both located at BC Cancer’s Vancouver Centre, meaning people facing cancer from all across the province have to travel for scans.
Demand for PET/CT scans has grown to more than 9,400 scans a year, far above our annual capacity of just 7,775. With an expected jump to 12,000 scans by 2020, there is an urgent need to DOUBLE our PET/CT technology in B.C. That’s why we have launched a campaign for the purchase and installation of two new PET/CT scanners in Victoria and Kelowna.
BMO Financial Group recently matched $500,000 of donations from thousands of donors across to province to this campaign. This also inspired longstanding supporter and community leader Dr. Chan Gunn to make his own pledge of $500,000 to match gifts beyond BMO’s offer. Thank you to everyone who contributed!
We are excited to announce that we have reached our fundraising goal for the PET/CT scanner in Victoria! We are still fundraising for a new machine in Kelowna to bring care closer to home for thousands.
Please, make a donation today and help revolutionize cancer care in B.C.!
