This January, I've committed to Lose the Booze and give up alcohol for the entire month.
Why I’m doing this…
My dad was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in the spring of 2011 and began the first wild year of treatments. In the process they also found he had thyroid cancer so that complicated things. He had to wait for his initial chemo treatment to be completed and his body healthy enough for the surgery and then took it on like a champ. Over the past 9 years there have been hundreds of dr’s appointments, blood tests and as of late more chemotherapy. In 2020 my dad was diagnosed with amyloidosis which is not a cancer but acts like one and is associated with multiple myeloma so the year has been a challenge working through that. The positive news is the new chemo is doing its job and proving to be a success. This treatment wasn’t available in 2011 so it goes to show that advances in medicine do make a difference for people!
It will definitely be a challenge, but I’m doing it for an important cause. While I’m swapping my wine for water, and my pints for pop, I’ll also be fundraising for the BC Cancer Foundation. One in two people in our province will face cancer in their lifetime, so this is a cause I’m willing to be parched for.
It’s going to be a long month, and I’m relying on the support of friends and family like you to see me all the way through January 31st.
Please, will you support me with a donation today? Your gift will directly support life-saving cancer research taking place at BC Cancer – and will play a huge role in keeping me motivated this month.
Thank you so much for your support!
