IN MEMORY OF NATALIE MATKO
My name is Natalie Matko Jackson and I am living with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. After initially being diagnosed with breast cancer on Halloween 2012 and thinking it was beat after 8 rounds of chemo, 2 surgeries, and 20 sessions of radiation - I was just a month shy of celebrating 5 years cancer free when I found out my cancer had returned. The breast cancer cells spread to my lungs and bones in 2017. I am now what is called metastatic - no cure, terminal.
It is now 2022 and 10 years since my initial diagnosis and 5 years since my metastatic diagnosis. I have received world class care at the BC Cancer Agency - receiving the latest chemo treatments and knowledge from my health care team.
After 10 years of nonstop treatment, I am putting active chemo on hold while I give my body a break to live each day to the fullest. It's definitely not an easy place to be, both mentally and physically, knowing that treatment options have been exhausted. The hope is for more good days than bad days, and of course, another option for those in the future that are experiencing with I am.
I know that more research needs to be done to ensure women like me can live longer, more fulfilling lives - hence, this fundraising page!
The BC Cancer Foundation is the bridge that connects philanthropic support and research breakthroughs in cancer. As the fundraising partner of BC Cancer, and the largest charitable funder of cancer research in this province, they enable donors to make contributions to leading-edge research that has a direct impact on improvements to cancer care for patients in B.C.
Thank you for the support!
Natalie
