WOMEN GOING BEYOND unites women from across Vancouver Island in philanthropic action to accelerate innovative research of women’s cancer care and access to new treatment options.
Launched in collaboration with the BC Cancer Foundation and champions from the community, WOMEN GOING BEYOND is helping to ensure life beyond cancer is within reach — in the past five years, the campaign has raised over $1.5 million for the BC Cancer Foundation and women’s cancer research
THE CAUSE
This year, WOMEN GOING BEYOND aims to raise $500,000 to support two groundbreaking breast cancer clinical trials at BC Cancer Victoria. These trials are bringing tomorrow’s standard of care to women on Vancouver Island today!
Rapid 2 is a radiation clinical trial that is determining whether, following breast conserving surgery, partial irradiation of the breast is as effective as whole irradiation of the breast in preventing recurrence and has fewer adverse cosmetic side-effects impacting shape, size, color changes, scarring, and retraction.
MA.29 is a systemic (chemotherapy) trial that is determining whether observation alone after surgery is as effective as completing 6 more months of immunotherapy in patients with early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) who have completed standard treatment before surgery and who have had a good response. Future patients may be able to avoid the additional weeks of treatment and its associated side effects, some of which can be severe.
