Vancouver Sun Run - GCT Support
In February of 2023, after several months of debilitating back pain, I was diagnosed with Giant Cell Tumor of the Spine, a type of bone tumor that is locally aggressive and destroys vertebral bone tissue. Throughout the course of the year I went through several surgeries to support my spine. The last surgery was unfortunately unsuccessful in removing the tumor, so now I undergo monthly infusions at BC Cancer to manage the tumor.
Giant Cell tumors are one if the most rare bone tumors, only 1.3 in 1 million people get diagnosed. Because of its rarity, it is not very well studied. The BC Cancer society is a forerunner in research in GCT, and I am lucky to be treated by some of the most professional doctors. I am raising this fundraiser for awareness and to give back to the BC Cancer team.
