We are participating in the Cure Our Ovarian Cancer fundraiser, STEP UP, for BC Cancer Foundation.
Ovarian cancer is significantly underfunded and underdiagnosed despite it's high mortality rate.
Our Aunt Enid (our Mother’s sister) passed away of ovarian cancer at the young age of 42. Not only did cancer steal Enid’s bright future, but we lost the chance to know this wonderful woman who would have been an influential and loving figure in our lives.
Not a family gathering goes by where we don’t hear stories of her kindness, generosity and sense of humour and wonder what would be different if she were still here today.
September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. On September 17th we (Amelia and Meghan) are running an ultra-marathon (50km), and Joan is running 25km in partnership with Cure Our Ovarian Cancer's Step Up Campaign.
Our hope is to raise awareness, help advance research and honor Enid's generosity by raising $1000 to support BC Cancer's Research.
All money raised will support Dr.Mark Carey and Dr. Cheng-Han Lee's research on low-grade serious ovarian cancer where they are investigating tumour biomarkers for individulized therapuetic susceptibility. Drs. Carey and Lee collaborate globally to ensure their findings benefit the international community.
