In Loving Memory of William (Bill) Goodsir
April 16, 1934 – June 15, 2025
William (Bill) Goodsir, age 91, passed away peacefully in Vancouver, Canada, on June 18, 2025, with his devoted wife, Margaret, by his side.
Bill is deeply missed by Margaret; his children Ceri Sanderson (Bill), Murray Goodsir (Christine), and Alison Goebel (Les); his grandchildren Noel, Cody, Nikki (great grandson Dezmond), Maya, and step grandaughters Stephanie and Leora (1989 - 2022); his sister Isabel Williamson and brother Eric Goodsir (Kate); as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. On behalf of the entire Goodsir family, we thank you sincerely for your generous gift made in Bill’s memory.
Born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, Bill immigrated to Canada in 1953. He began his career as an architectural assistant and later found his true calling in healthcare infrastructure. For several decades, he served as Director of Planning and Construction at Vancouver General Hospital, retiring in 1996 at the age of 62.
Bill’s impact extended beyond his professional career. He played a key role in the development of cancer lodges across British Columbia and continued his commitment to the cause during retirement. As Chair of the BC Cancer Society’s Building Committee, Bill guided critical infrastructure projects and was recognized as BC Cancer’s Volunteer of the Year in 2012–2013.
Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1996, Bill lived with resilience and grace for nearly three decades. His contributions to cancer care—and the communities it serves—are lasting and meaningful.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Bill’s honor on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Knox United Church, 5590 Balaclava Street, Vancouver, B.C.
