Supporting Cancer Research and Care

The Lee and Lam family are saddened to announce that on February 1, 2022 Elaine Lee (Lam Yee Ling) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Elaine was born in Hong Kong to hardworking parents, Lam Cheun and Mak Fa. She was a caring eldest sister to six siblings: Yee Fun, Yee Chun, Yee Kit, Wai Lap, Wai Chung, and Yee Mei.
Elaine's dedication to her family was inspiring and lovingly admired by her late husband, Ken, and two daughters, Andrea and Magi. She fearlessly left behind the familiarity of big city life in Hong Kong and moved to Summerland, BC, Canada in order to build a better life with her family.
As an accomplished entrepreneur, Elaine was the owner, operator and sous chef of Johnnie's Family Restaurant. Together with Ken, she served delicious Chinese food to our local community for more than fourteen years.
After her restaurant venture, she called on her fashion designer background in Hong Kong and shared her passion of sewing through her alteration business, Golden Needle Silver Thread, for nearly two decades. Part of her sewing projects included supporting the locals at Angus Place and the extended care unit at Dr Andrew Pavilion. Sewing was a social affair and she was a socialite. She built wonderful friendships through the Summerland Aquatic Pool, Auxiliary Thrift Store and Girl Guides of Canada.
Elaine had fun exploring the globe and visiting loved ones around the world with family and travel mates. In particular, she treasured every moment when being with her grandchildren Samuel and Charlotte. Her spark for life and quick wit brought much laughter to those who surrounded her.
Elaine was extremely grateful for the thorough care she received from all her attending doctors, nurses and home care team. Her bold, strong, and kind nature was carried with her until the end of her life’s journey. Elaine, a tenacious ‘sweet lady’ with a persevering spirit will always be remembered by many.
As per her wish, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, you can think of her when playing the song “Oh, Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison or enjoy a picnic on the families’ picnic table near the Peach Orchard Water Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are deeply appreciated to the BC Cancer Foundation: https://bccancerfoundation.com/ElaineLee
