SUPPORTING RESEARCH AND CARE AT BC CANCER

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Kashmir Singh Bains. Born September 10, 1942, he passed away peacefully on February 3, 2023 surrounded by family. A husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Kashmir was a proud Khalistani SIkh and an active member of the international Sikh community through his involvement with the World Sikh Organization. He worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those in India including the building of village schools and advocating for a better accessibility and standards of education.
Born before the partition of India in a district then known as Village Chak No. 61-4R, Montgomery, Pakistan, he was at heart a poet and writer. Having made the dangerous Partition migration, he spent his youth in his family's new home in Simbli, Punjab. Searching for a land with more opportunity than available to him in India, he immigrated to Canada in 1970. He eventually settled in Duncan, BC where he worked in the Youbou sawmill for 27 years, retiring in 2001 when the Timberwest mill closed. Post retirement, Kashmir was able to indulge his passion for construction projects and community service. Being the youngest sibling Kashmir had very close relationships with all of his nieces and nephews, doing all he could to maintain familial connections with the extended family around the world.
Kashmir is survived by his wife, Sukhvinder Kaur; sons Manmohan (grandchildren Cyrus & Halia), Jasmohan (wife Satpal, grandchildren Dante and Greci), Jagmohan (wife Anita, grandchildren Priya, Kiera and Jayden); daughters Indra (husband Shabir, granddaughters Zahra and Kirin), Manpreet (husband Sabhi, grandsons Jaskaran and Jaipaul).
The family would like to thank Dr. Sanders, the Palliative care nurses, doctors and the extended medical community for the care and compassion shown to Kashmir in his final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to BC Cancer Society
