Abbotsford Oral Oncology & Dentistry Clinic
BC Cancer – Abbotsford is opening a state-of-the-art Oral Oncology/Dentistry Clinic and we need your help
The new clinic is nearing completion, and will feature two exam rooms, a prosthodontics lab, and the latest imaging equipment, a Cone Beam CT (CBCT).
A Cone Beam CT (CBCT) is the final component needed to open the clinic
CBCT is an essential tool for early detection, treatment planning, as well as diagnosing and managing cancer-specific infections. Results from a CBCT can be interpreted in seconds and allow for three-dimensional designs for surgery to help provide optimal outcomes. CBCT will also enable the most accurate tracking of changes to a person’s cancer and assist in early detection and recurrences.
A new Oral Oncology and Dentistry Clinic in Abbotsford will provide world-class care close to home and reduce wait times in Surrey
Currently, all cancer patients in Abbotsford must travel to BC Cancer – Surrey to receive specialized oral and dental care and the clinic is rapidly reaching capacity. 40% of patients seen in Surrey for oral and dental care are from the Abbotsford catchment.
Cancer treatments can create significant dental issues
People with a broad range of cancers including head and neck, breast, prostate, leukemia and oral require treatments such as bone marrow transplants, systemic therapy, immunotherapy and radiation therapy.
These treatments can present significant challenges to a person’s oral health and affect their ability to eat. Oral and dental issues that arise during cancer treatment must be addressed by an expert in oral oncology.
