THE CAMPAIGN

WOMEN GOING BEYOND unites women leaders across Vancouver Island in a philanthropic effort to accelerate access and innovative research for ovarian cancer care.

Launched in collaboration between the BC Cancer Foundation and campaign champions from Vancouver Island, WOMEN GOING BEYOND is helping to ensure life beyond cancer is within reach — in the past five years, the campaign has raised over $1 million for the BC Cancer Foundation.

This year, WOMEN GOING BEYOND aims to raise $500,000 to support the BC Cancer - Victoria’s groundbreaking immunotherapy research and help transform the future for ovarian cancer patients.

WHY NOW?

Each year, more than 300 women in B.C. will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

No screening or early detection is currently available, making ovarian cancer the deadliest of the gynecological cancers — 70% of cases are diagnosed at a late stage, when treatment is less effective. Only half of women with advanced disease live beyond five years.

But there is hope.  

BC Cancer – Victoria’s DRC has seen remarkable success in treating blood cancers with a type of immunotherapy called CAR-T therapy. Now, they’re working to bring this groundbreaking approach to ovarian cancer, offering new possibilities where few exist today.

To make this a reality, the BC Cancer Foundation has launched a $6.8 million campaign to expand BC Cancer’s immunotherapy program – including $1.9 million to help fund ovarian cancer research and a first-in-B.C. clinical trial. 

The WOMEN GOING BEYOND campaign is raising funds to fuel this research and improve outcomes for people facing ovarian cancer.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

From March 1 to April 30, 2025, we encourage community leaders to contribute, connect and activate their networks as we raise a minimum of $500,000 in support of BC Cancer. 

WOMEN GOING BEYOND Campaign Champion Helen Edwards will be generously matching donations dollar-for-dollar up to $75,000, until April 25, 2025 or until the matching funds are depleted.
