OpenRoad Auto is the Exclusive Luxury Automobile Partner of the 2015 Inspiration Gala benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation, and this May is involved with the 2015 Diamond Rally, an invitation only luxury car rally from Vancouver to Whistler along the scenic Sea to Sky Highway. OpenRoad Auto has selected the BC Cancer Foundation as charitable partner for the Diamond Rally and is inspired by the MacKenzie family’s experience to support cancer research.

When Sarah MacKenzie was diagnosed with a rare ovarian cancer subtype in 2011, it shook her entire family. The mother of two young boys was facing the unknown. Though frontline treatment was initially successful, her cancer soon recurred.

Fortunately for Sarah, her care team at the BC Cancer Agency is among world-leaders in ovarian cancer research and she was recently presented the option to take part in clinical trials to treat the cancer recurrence.

Sarah has had an overwhelmingly positive response to the clinical trial drug to date. She is doing well and is able to enjoy precious moments with her two young boys. She is so thankful for the incredible care and access to clinical research at the BC Cancer Agency.

As her husband Patrick is a member of the BC Cancer Foundation’s Inspiration Gala Committee, the family has a huge appreciation for the power of philanthropy. Last year’s Inspiration Gala raised an incredible $5 million for a world-leading clinical research program that’s already saving lives and re-shaping the future of cancer care.

The 2015 Inspiration Gala is setting-out to raise $4 million to kick-start a game-changing clinical trial with a promising new treatment option, born from a decade of breakthrough lab research into immunotherapy. This emerging treatment will boost a patient’s immune response to cancer with potentially curative effects.

Even faced with the ups and downs of Sarah’s cancer journey, the MacKenzies have been resolute in their commitment to the BC Cancer Foundation.

As Patrick says, “by virtue of living in BC, my wife has access to the world class research and care of the BC Cancer Agency and she has the best chance to be here as a mom to our two sons.”

The funds raised through Open Road’s Diamond Rally fundraiser will support the BC Cancer Foundation’s 2015 Inspiration Gala to bring life-saving immunotherapy clinical trials to cancer patients in BC within the next 18-months.

OpenRoad Auto is honoured to have Sarah, Patrick and their two sons join-in the Diamond Rally on Saturday May 30th to celebrate cancer research and the potential immunotherapy holds in helping more people have a successful cancer journey.
