In Loving Memory of Georgia Guy

Georgia lived a joyous life and died peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital with her family—her partner Robyn Young, her daughter Cheryl Lee and son-in-law Kevin, and her grandchildren Emma and Tommy—at her side. Born in Red Deer, Alberta, Georgia was the daughter of Jack and Myrtle Sinclair and sister to Connie (Mont), Jim (Nancy), and Mildred (Jim).

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Alberta, Georgia moved to Vancouver with her husband Peter Linley and their daughter Cheryl. In her late 20’s, Georgia completed her Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from Simon Fraser University. This began a life of teaching English, both to young people and, later, to new immigrant women. Georgia remarried and moved with her husband Lionel Guy to Squamish.

During her years in Squamish Georgia renewed her childhood interest in Guiding by assuming leadership roles within the organization. She was always involved in community activities whether related to her role as a parent or her own love of literature.

Georgia then moved to Toronto and became the Executive Director for Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council. She later went on to work in management roles at Girl Guides of Canada, National Council. While in Toronto she met her life partner, Robyn, and together they explored their city and the world. Whether it was a weekend getaway with the esky or a holiday in Mexico, Australia or Tunisia, Georgia and Robyn took every opportunity for adventure. Seeking out new places to enjoy coffee and tea, film festivals, and cultural celebrations, they embraced all Toronto had to offer.

Georgia’s bright open-mindedness, curiosity, quick wit and intelligence were recognized and appreciated by all who knew her. Georgia relished her roles as “Gram” and Auntie Georgia. Together with Robyn she always chose to visit and make special time for their grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She enjoyed many wonderful visits to be with them and celebrate special events.
In 2008 Georgia was diagnosed with lung cancer and moved to North Vancouver with Robyn. Though living with cancer, she chose to appreciate every moment with the people she loved. Georgia and Robyn married in 2008, and continued to enjoy travel, local markets, fun food, reading and most of all, visits with family and friends.

A celebration of Georgia’s life will be held at the Pinnacle at the Pier Hotel in North Vancouver at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation in Georgia’s memory.
